"Race"ing Sideways (30" x 40", drawing in pencil and ink, 1991)

This is a drawing for an installation depicting a sequence of mannequins with subtle racial gradations. The first runner is white, the last runner black. As the people become more black their clothing becomes more white. This points to a lack of progress in race relations (clothing being a metaphor for class).
