"99 Bottles ... on the wall – The UMDNJ Pyrex Show – Beakers,
The winter of
2005, VAL, (Visual Arts League) spearheaded by local artist Judy Wray & HARTS (The Healing Arts Club) with Purvi Patel in the lead, began a project utilizing discarded Pyrex ware. Departments at the University of Medicine and Dentistry gave boxes and boxes of beakers, flasks, test tubes and Petri Dishes. What was done, shines!Together we have made a visual statement of experimentation and working together using the very things that the medical students work with everyday.
This project has spilled over the walls of UMDNJ, inviting Girl Scouts, children from the Voyagers Learning Center, outside artists, students, staff, and random others. Now we invite digital artists everywhere to right click the glassware posted on the valweb.org web site, work their magic in Photoshop and send back to us as a zipped file via e mail at valweb@valweb.org. (Patience! while we photograph and upload some unusual bottles! )
As an alternative option, artists can use their own choice of glassware.
We are looking to make a selection from around the world of 30 pieces posted on either 30 pillars inside the student lounge of UMDNJ
or as a composite such as already can be seen across one side of the student lounge.
Allot depends on the kind of response and funds which can be germinated (oops! generated!)
Pieces chosen will be posted on the web site along with info about the artist and the image sent printed out to a size suitable for the space chosen with a plaque about the artist and link to their website.
